Air Strippers / Degasifiers

High-efficiency packings for groundwater VOC removal and degasification, with superior resistance to iron fouling.

Air Strippers / Degasifiers

Air stripping and degasification transfer dissolved contaminants — VOCs, BTEX compounds, H₂S, CO₂, radon — from water into an airstream for subsequent treatment or discharge. Tower-based systems pass air counter-current to the contaminated water through a packed bed. Packing selection determines the height of transfer unit (HTU), which drives tower height, footprint, blower horsepower, and total system cost.

Conventional packings in air strippers operate through liquid films on packing surfaces. This limits mass transfer efficiency and, critically, creates vulnerability to plugging from iron, manganese, or biological fouling common in groundwater applications. Systems designed for these packings must either be oversized to accommodate fouling or shut down frequently for cleaning.

Lantec drip point packings operate at higher mass transfer efficiency per unit bed depth, enabling shorter towers or higher removal rates in existing equipment. The open geometry of these packings also offers substantially better fouling resistance — solids pass through rather than bridging across the packing surface — reducing maintenance requirements over the system lifetime.

Packing for Air Strippers and Degasifiers

LANPAC-XL®

LANPAC-XL is the preferred Lantec packing for air stripping applications where tower height is the binding constraint. Its four-layer construction doubles Q-PAC's drip point density to 22,000 points per cubic foot, delivering higher mass transfer efficiency per foot of bed depth at the cost of somewhat higher pressure drop. NSF-certified for contact with potable water.

The combination of high efficiency and fouling resistance makes LANPAC-XL effective in groundwater remediation applications where iron precipitation or biological growth would quickly compromise conventional packings.

LANPAC®

LANPAC serves air stripping applications with higher liquid loading rates or where plugging resistance is the primary selection criterion. Its single-piece construction handles high liquid flux without the channeling or flooding risks that constrain other high-efficiency packings. Field-tested against iron fouling in potable water treatment — a particularly demanding condition — with documented resistance to plugging that conventional packings failed to achieve. NSF-certified (3.5" size) for potable water contact.

Q-PAC®

Q-PAC brings proven air stripping performance at the lower end of the efficiency/pressure drop tradeoff. Where LANPAC-XL is optimized for tower height reduction, Q-PAC is the right choice when gas-liquid contact area must be maximized in a fixed tower volume. Widely documented in VOC removal from groundwater and industrial wastewater applications.
