Scrubbers

Tower packings for acid gas, VOC, and odor control that outperform conventional packings in capacity and efficiency.

Scrubbers

Wet scrubbers remove acid gases, VOCs, and odorous compounds from air streams through gas-liquid contact. The packing media determines the efficiency of that contact and, in turn, the size and cost of the system. Conventional random packings — saddles, Pall rings, and their variants — transfer contaminants primarily through liquid films on packing surfaces. This mechanism limits mass transfer rates and requires larger towers operating at lower velocities to meet removal targets.

Lantec packings operate by a different mechanism: drip point technology breaks liquid into millions of airborne droplets, presenting their entire surface area to the gas phase simultaneously. The result is substantially higher mass transfer per unit volume. Scrubbers built with Lantec packings achieve equivalent or better removal in smaller towers, with lower pressure drop, lower power consumption, and better resistance to fouling from solids in the gas stream.

Scrubber Packing for Acid Gas, VOC, and Odor Control

Q-PAC®

Q-PAC is Lantec's workhorse scrubber packing and the most widely installed Lantec product. Its patented three-layer needle-grid construction creates 11,000 drip points per cubic foot — a density impossible in single-piece molded packings — while maintaining a 96% void fraction. The combination supports operating velocities of 600+ ft/min versus ~350 ft/min for conventional packings, allowing towers to be sized substantially smaller without sacrificing removal efficiency.

Documented installations include $500,000+ capital savings in a two-stage municipal odor scrubber, 34%+ capacity increases at rendering facilities where conventional packings plugged and failed, and $80,000+ annual power savings at kraft mills switching from saddles. Thousands of installations across municipal odor control, industrial acid gas scrubbing, VOC destruction, and seawater flue gas desulfurization.

LANPAC®

LANPAC serves scrubbing applications where high liquid loading is the binding constraint — high-recirculation scrubbers, applications with significant liquid-phase reaction heat, and systems where plugging resistance is critical. Its single-piece construction handles liquid rates that would flood lower-void-fraction packings, and the open geometry resists fouling from particulates carried in the liquid stream.

NUPAC®

NUPAC's rolled construction achieves the highest specific surface area in the Lantec plastic packing line, making it the preferred choice when mass transfer per unit volume must be maximized and liquid rates permit. Also used as a mist elimination layer above packed beds in scrubbers handling heavy mist loading.
